tvN’s fantasy romance Head Over Heels came to a close yesterday, ending its run with critical acclaim and its highest ratings yet. The finale reached a peak of 6.2% in the Seoul capital area and 6.1% nationwide, claiming No. 1 in its time slot across all cable and general networks.
In the emotionally charged finale, Bae Gyeon Woo (Choo Young Woo) risks his life to save Park Seong A (Cho Yi Hyun) by retrieving the malevolent spirit Bong Soo. Despite the spirit’s tears and warnings that Seong A’s soul could shatter if she’s not released, Gyeon Woo makes the ultimate choice. When he finds Seong A inside her dream, she instantly recognizes that it’s him, not Bong Soo, who came to find her. His apology—“I’m sorry I left you alone at eighteen”—leads to one last kiss that finally allows Bong Soo to return to Gyeon Woo.
seriously this drama deserves an award. it really gave me goosebumps. seonga desperately asks her patron deity to help her save gyeonu and restore her powers as a shaman and her mother appears with the gods to help her and be by her side omg 😭#HeadOverHeelsEp12#HeadOverHeels pic.twitter.com/2hH9aH326L

Elsewhere, Yeom Hwa (Choo Ja Hyun) also sacrifices herself to right her past wrongs, sealing off the haunted house with Bong Soo inside. When Seong A—now awakened as a full-fledged shaman—returns as the divine “seonnyeo,” she breaks through the spiritual barrier to find Bong Soo. With Gyeon Woo’s help, she lets him cross over with one final, poignant goodbye: “Bye, Shaman. You should say bye too.”

In the end, both leads return to the living. Gyeon Woo earns his spot on the Olympic archery team, while Seong A continues her calling as a shaman, unable to ignore the spirits who still cry out. Her final narration reflects on her once-lonely gift: “I see more than most people. I used to linger at the edges of the world because of that—but it doesn’t make me sad anymore.”
That final kiss between Seong A and Gyeon Woo seals not just a romance, but a mutual salvation. A story that began with grief and ghosts ends not with a perfect life—but with a perfect kind of peace. Not to mention, Cho Yi Hyun and Choo Young Woo’s chemistry was pitch-perfect to the very end.
