Arin has turned heads with her bold transformation in the Wavve original series S Line.
A fantasy thriller with a provocative premise, S Line follows a world where glowing red threads—dubbed “S Lines”—appear between people who’ve had sexual relationships. In a recent interview with Sports Chosun, Arin opened up about taking on the role of Hyun Heup, a girl who can see these S Lines even without the aid of special glasses.
“The genre itself was so bold that when I first got the script, it was different from anything I’d done befor,e both in terms of the image I’ve shown and the genres I’ve tried. I really wondered if I could pull it off,” she shared.
One of the scenes generating buzz involves Arin in a bedroom scene that strongly suggests intimacy—an especially daring move for someone transitioning from K-pop idol to actress.
“I felt the scene was necessary for the story,” Arin said. “We made sure to shoot it in a way that stayed true to the narrative while staying within reasonable boundaries. The director was very thoughtful and collaborative, which helped the connection between Hyun Heup and Jun Sun feel natural. For me, it was a bit of a challenge.”
Naturally, some longtime fans—especially those who’ve followed her since her days as Oh My Girl’s cherished maknae—were caught off guard. “A lot of fans were surprised, probably because they’re used to seeing me as the youngest,” she admitted. “But I think they understood that this is my first real step as an actress and accepted it—so I’m slowly taking on new challenges.”
Arin was juggling the S Line shoot while still actively promoting as a member of Oh My Girl. “The members were really understanding,” she said. “There were times when I was quieter than usual or when little bits of Hyun Heup slipped into my everyday life, but they all got it. After watching the show, they told me they were surprised and said this kind of role was actually really compelling.”
