Go Min Si has ultimately been dropped from the upcoming Netflix series Grand Galaxy Hotel. While she was initially in talks for the female lead role, rising star Shin Sia has now joined the lead cast in her place. Attention is now turning to whether this will impact Go’s future projects.
The production team officially announced on June 26 that Lee Do Hyun and Shin Sia would star in the lead roles. Directed by Oh Choong Hwan of Hotel Del Luna and written by the Hong sisters, the drama is a romantic fantasy that tells a love story involving grim reapers.
Go Min Si was initially considered for the role of Go Sang Soon, and it had been reported that scheduling discussions were already underway. However, the team put her casting on hold after internal discussions following school bullying allegations that surfaced online last month. Shin Sia eventually replaced her. While the production has refrained from commenting on the controversy, the casting change appears to signal a weakening of Go Min Si’s standing in the industry.
Despite this, her other upcoming Netflix series Perfect Job is reportedly proceeding as planned. A Netflix representative told OSEN on May 27th that she is filming according to the original schedule and “there have been no changes.” The project had already been scheduled before the controversy broke and is being quietly filmed with minimal public exposure.
However, the situation is different for her other potential project, the film The World of Love. While Go was also reportedly in the lead role, sources say the casting status became uncertain following the bullying allegations. The production team has yet to make an official statement, but there is speculation that changes may be made depending on how public opinion evolves.
Go Min Si has strongly denied the allegations, calling them “completely untrue.” But with even the post-finale interviews for her drama Tastefully Yours not being scheduled, her future in other projects remains unclear. Many are watching to see whether she will issue a further statement.
