Disney Plus is diving into murky waters with its new original series Low Life and the impressive ensemble cast.
Set in 1977, Low Life follows a scrappy crew of small-town hustlers all chasing the same prize—a long-lost treasure ship buried deep beneath the sea. The teaser poster drops a punchy tagline: “Country folks smell cash and come running!” and teases the chaotic gold rush to come.
Leading the ensemble is Ryu Seung Ryong, Yang Se Jong, and Lim Soo Jung, joined by an all-star supporting cast including Kim Eui Sung, Kim Sung Oh, Hong Ki Joon, Woo Hyun, Lee Dong Hwi, and U-Know Yunho—13 characters in total, all drawn together by the scent of fortune.

The accompanying trailer kicks off the full-scale battle with Oh Gwan Seok’s (Ryu Seung Ryong) line: “If it hits big, we all win. If it flops, we all crash.” It vividly depicts how characters with different professions and desires—a tomb raider, an appraiser, a police officer, a broker, and a driver—become entangled in pursuit of one goal: the treasure ship.
The dialogue crackles with local flavor, highlighting a colorful cast from across the nation—Seoul, Busan, Mokpo. Add in the series’ retro 1970s styling, complete with retro mise-en-scène and regional dialects, and Low Life promises a gritty yet energetic tone that grounds the story while keeping viewers guessing.
Low Life will be exclusively available on Disney Plus starting July 16th (Wednesday) with 3 episodes, followed by 2 episodes each on July 23rd, July 30th, August 6th, and August 13th, for a total of 11 episodes.
