Controversial YouTube figure Kim Se Eui, head of the far-right channel HoverLab (aka Garosero Research Institute), is facing serious legal heat after Seoul Central District Court approved a 4 billion won ($2.9 million) asset freeze on two of his properties.

According to an exclusive report by Money Today on June 11th, the court granted the provisional seizure requested by Gold Medalist, the agency representing Kim Soo Hyun. The ruling affects two apartments under Kim Se Eui’s name: the Byucksan Blooming complex in Seocho District and a 50% co-owned unit in the Hanyang 4th complex in Apgujeong.

This comes in the wake of serious allegations made by Kim Se Eui through AI-generated audio and manipulated images, which were used to spread false claims about Kim Soo Hyun in his recent scandal. The actor’s team has responded by filing criminal charges against Kim Se Eui. They have also launched a civil lawsuit seeking 12 billion won ($8.8 million) in damages.

The court appears to have found some merit in the damages claim, hence the approval of the asset freeze. However, recovery could be difficult: both properties already carry liens totaling around 4.2 billion won ($3 million), potentially complicating any future forced collection.

Both criminal and civil proceedings are currently underway simultaneously, and if Kim Se Eui loses the case, she may face joint liability for collective illegal acts.

Meanwhile, Kim Se Eui’s appeal against a separate court-issued restraining order for stalking law violations regarding Kim Soo Hyun was recently dismissed.
