Coupang Play and Genie TV have confirmed the production and casting for UDT: My Neighborhood Special Ops (literal title) and will begin full-scale filming this month.
The action-comedy follows a ragtag group of former elite soldiers—no longer concerned with national defense or world peace—who reunite solely to protect their families and hometown.
Yoon Kye Sang takes on the role of Choi Kang, a former member of the JDD Special Mission Unit who’s now known as “the guy who looks like he never served in the military” and works as an ordinary insurance investigator.
Jin Sun Kyu plays Kwak Byung Nam, a former HID counterterrorism operative who now runs a hardware-slash-stationery store and serves as the president of the Changri-dong Youth Association. Yoon Kye Sang and Jin Sun Kyu previously showed intense chemistry as a crime boss and gang member in the hit crime action film The Outlaws.
Rounding out the cast, Kim Ji Hyun plays supermarket CEO Jung Nam Yeon, Ko Kyu Phil takes on the role of martial arts studio owner Lee Yong Hee, and Lee Jung Ha appears as Park Jung Hwan, an engineering major at Seoul National University.
UDT: My Neighborhood Special Ops is created by Ban Ki Ri, known for the emotional storytelling behind the Missing: The Other Side series. Director Cho Woong, recognized for his stylish direction in Justice and A Virtuous Business, joins the project, with writer Kim Sang Yoon penning the script.
Meanwhile, the series is slated for release in the second half of 2025 via Coupang Play, Genie TV, and ENA.
