Legendary K-pop group g.o.d showed true class in response to a disrespectful remark from a public official.

Joo Nak Young, the mayor of Gyeongju, has issued a public apology after sparking controversy over a belittling comment about the group.

During the June 9th pre-recording for the KBS2 show Immortal Songs‘s upcoming 2025 Gyeongju APEC special, Mayor Joo reportedly saw g.o.d listed among the performers and said, “g.o.d was a group from our generation. Aren’t they kind of washed up now?”

His remark quickly drew backlash online, prompting the mayor to issue an apology on social media the same day.

“I’m truly sorry if my comment upset anyone,” he wrote. “I had no intention of insulting any artist. Our generation genuinely loved and respected g.o.d. My words came from a place of affection and surprise at seeing them still active. That said, I realize the way I said it was inappropriate, and I apologize to the fans.”

In response, g.o.d’s leader and eldest member, Park Joon Hyung, addressed the issue with words to fans on June 9th.

“We’re really okay, no matter what people say,” he said. “This isn’t our first or last day doing this, you know? I just don’t want you guys getting hurt over someone’s careless words.”

He added, “Keep your hearts open and don’t let stuff like this get to you. Don’t stress over petty things—we’ve still got bigger things ahead.”
