Baek Ji Young recently opened up about the real reason she and her husband, Jung Suk Won, decided to get married, revealing that it was due to a premarital pregnancy.
A video was uploaded to Baek Ji Young’s YouTube channel on April 30th, showing the couple enjoying a picnic together. During the outing, the two answered fan-submitted questions, one of which asked what led them to decide on marriage and whether they faced any challenges while preparing for it.
“I really liked his sense of humor, and I felt comfortable around him,” Baek shared. “Of course, I had butterflies when we were dating. We just clicked in all the right ways, and that made me want to marry him.” She then added candidly, “And honestly, we got married because I was pregnant. As you know, it wasn’t a traditional timeline.”
When the production team asked what made her think Jung would be a good father, Baek replied, “He’s diligent, cheerful, and always smiling. After having our daughter Ha Yim, I realized I was right.”
Jung Suk Won also reflected on their relationship, saying, “To be honest, I wasn’t planning on getting married. When we first met, I was 26—still a kid with barely any armpit hair,” he joked. “I thought I’d get married around 34, but early in our relationship, I started thinking, ‘I could actually marry this person.’ Her character and way of life just naturally drew me in.”
He added, “I probably thought about marriage three times a week. It was just so easy between us. If our eyes met, we’d eat. We were totally in sync.”
Baek also shared her thoughts on the benefits of having a younger husband. “We once went to a couples’ gathering, and the oldest husband there was born in 1968. Jung was born in 1985,” she said. “But honestly, men are all the same regardless of age. It’s more about personality. Sometimes he feels like a friend, a younger brother, or an older brother—but when he’s with our daughter, he’s 100% a dad.”
Baek Ji Young and Jung Suk Won tied the knot in 2013, despite facing a tragic miscarriage at four months into her pregnancy. They later welcomed their daughter, Ha Yim, in 2017.
