Director Bong Joon Ho is facing accusations of racial discrimination after seemingly forgetting BLACKPINK member Lisa during a recent interview.

In a video released on the YouTube channel “BuzzFeed Celeb” on the 3rd, Bong Joon Ho appeared as a guest for their signature segment, The Puppy Interview.
During the interview, when asked about his “favorite K-pop group,” the Oscar-winning director promptly answered “BLACKPINK.”

When further questioned about his “favorite member,” Bong named “Rosé, Jisoo, Jennie,” and simply added “all of them” as a catch-all response.

This omission has sparked controversy among Thai fans, as Lisa is the group’s only Thai member. Some fans have gone as far as labeling the Parasite director a “racist” for failing to remember the name of the group’s only non-Korean member.

Meanwhile, Bong Joon Ho’s new film Mickey 17 was released on February 28th. The movie follows the story of an “expendable” named Mickey who is sent on dangerous missions and can be reprinted after death. The plot centers on the unexpected events that unfold when Mickey 17 faces a life-threatening situation, and Mickey 18 is printed under the assumption that Mickey 17 has died. This marks Bong’s first directorial project since his Academy Award-winning film Parasite.
