The recent resolution of custody rights and asset distribution for the late Barbie Hsu means her estate will go to her remarried husband Koo Jun Yup, aka DJ Koo, and her family.
On the morning of the 2nd, Taiwanese media outlet SETN exclusively reported, “Recently, there was news that Wang Xiaofei was accused of trying to sue the bereaved family over the late Barbie Hsu’s inheritance. However, Barbie Hsu’s assets will now go to her spouse Koo Jun Yup and her family.”
Barbie Hsu and Wang Xiaofei have two children: a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son. The media outlet clarified, “Wang Xiaofei will act as the legal representative for the children’s assets until they turn 18.”
The current residence of the two children will remain unchanged in their mother’s homeland of Taiwan. The media outlet stated, “Wang Xiaofei will not take the children to Beijing right away.” Furthermore, they reported, “The agreement between Koo Jun Yup and the bereaved family and Wang Xiaofei’s side was reached peacefully, contrary to speculation about inheritance disputes. Everything was agreed upon according to the law. The late Barbie Hsu’s assets were distributed equally to Koo Jun Yup and her family.”
Barbie Hsu married Chinese business heir Wang Xiaofei in 2011 but divorced in 2021. The couple had two children together. Barbie first met Koo Jun Yup in 1998 and maintained a romantic relationship until the early 2000s before breaking up. After her divorce from Wang Xiaofei, she reunited with DJ Koo after 20 years. They reunited and got married in 2022, but Barbie Hsu passed away just three years later.
After Barbie Hsu’s death, a legal battle over custody of the two children was anticipated, but the deceased’s mother clarified her position saying, “I will do whatever Wang Xiaofei wants.” She expressed, “Losing my daughter is painful enough” and added, “Take the child support and inheritance issues however Wang Xiaofei wants.” Media interpreted this as her intention to hand over custody of her two grandchildren and end the dispute with her former son-in-law.
