The stars of Netflix’s upcoming series Melo Movie—Choi Woo Shik, Park Bo Young, Lee Jun Young, and Jeon So Nee—turned up the romance in a newly released photoshoot that could easily be mistaken for actual couples’ portraits.
The February issue of Elle Korea captures the foursome in an intimate spread that showcases the raw essence of youth in love, balancing seriousness with quirkiness.
In the accompanying interview, Choi Woo Shik, who plays popular critic Ko Gyeom, resonated with the show’s tagline about young people who want both dream and love, becoming each other’s inspiration. “If youth means running forward while knowing when to rest and when to work hard, then I guess I’m still in my youth,” he shared.
Park Bo Young, taking on the role of filmmaker Kim Mu Bee, opened up about her character: “Mu Bee has grown thorns trying to protect herself. I thought she could be an encouraging figure for others our age, showing that we have the power within ourselves to break free from what troubles us.” When asked about her message to concerned young people, she offered, “We did well today, so let’s do well tomorrow too. Today isn’t our end, there’s always tomorrow. I hope everyone makes it to that tomorrow.”
Lee Jun Young, portraying composer Hong Si Jun, revealed personal connections to his role: “There’s a line where Si Jun says, ‘I know I don’t have talent, but here I am being a fool anyway, still trying.’ Acting out situations I’ve experienced before, trying to overcome lack of talent with effort—it became quite therapeutic.” He added, “The most appealing aspect of film is finding something meaningful while focusing on the message the work tries to convey.”
Jeon So Nee discussed her character Son Ju Ah, a screenplay writer: “I imagined Ju Ah as someone particularly strong in romantic elements. People change and grow the most while experiencing love, so I thought she’d be drawn to such stories, and that might have been what first inspired her to write.” She expressed curiosity about “how people will relate to Ju Ah’s internal journey.”
Melo Movie is set to premiere on Netflix this Valentine’s Day, February 14th.
