T.O.P broke his decade-long silence with an emotionally charged interview for Netflix’s Squid Game 2 on Wednesday, revealing the deep wounds of his separation from BIGBANG.

Breaking his 11-year media silence since 2014’s Tazza: The Hidden Card, and marking his first public appearance since his 2017 drug conviction, T.O.P candidly addressed his relationship with BIGBANG. “Currently, I’m not in contact with the BIGBANG members,” he shared. “I can’t remember exactly how long it’s been since we last spoke, but perhaps when my heart settles a bit… (we might reconnect).”

The K-pop star expressed deep remorse over past incidents that affected both BIGBANG and their former agency. His comments come amid fan speculation about a potential reunion following BIGBANG’s recent return as a trio with G Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung.

“I decided to leave because I couldn’t cause any more damage to the team,” T.O.P revealed. “The thought of rejoining the team and having my past affect the members was tormenting. I know there are people who want us to reunite. Reading those messages breaks my heart. Sometimes fans tag me in photos of BIGBANG with all members on social media. Looking at those pictures feels like viewing photos of a separated family. Unless you’re in this position, you can’t describe that pain and suffering. I was too reckless.”

When questioned about a potential BIGBANG comeback, T.O.P remained firm: “I feel too ashamed,” adding, “I made that decision (not to return) a long time ago, and my feelings haven’t changed since then.”

The artist also addressed controversy from August 2023, when he blocked fans celebrating BIGBANG’s 18th anniversary on Instagram. “In a situation where social media was my only channel of communication, I think I expressed my pain in the wrong way,” he acknowledged. “For that, I want to bow my head deeply and sincerely apologize to the fans once again.”
