A massive fire engulfed the set of Netflix’s upcoming supernatural drama East Palace, destroying an entire soundstage facility, though fortunately resulting in no casualties.
According to fire authorities, the blaze broke out at 2:08 AM on December 21st KST at the drama’s filming location in Misan-myeon, Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province. Officials issued a Level-1 emergency response, with firefighters bringing the flames under control within two hours. While the set was unoccupied at the time, preventing any injuries, the inferno consumed an entire 3,655-square-meter (approximately 39,340-square-foot) structure, including lighting equipment stored inside.
East Palace is positioned as an occult drama following the story of Gu Cheon, a person with supernatural abilities to traverse the spirit realm, and Palace Maid Saenggang, who harbors her own secrets. The pair receive a royal summons to investigate a curse that has taken hold of the East Palace.
The production recently announced its star-studded cast on December 12th, featuring heavyweight talents Cho Seung Woo, Nam Joo Hyuk, and Roh Yoon Seo. The series’ premiere date remains unannounced.
Local law enforcement and fire officials are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire and assess the full extent of damages.
