BLACKPINK’s Jennie stirred online debate with her understated wedding guest look at a recent friend’s ceremony. While some applauded her chic black-and-white ensemble, others found it surprisingly formal, with opinions split between those who value subtlety and those who favor brighter attire for celebratory events.
Attending the October 28th event, Jennie wore a white shirt layered under a short-sleeve black sweater, paired with black pants, an ivory handbag, and neutral-colored shoes. Her understated makeup completed the look, which fans in Korea praised as “elegant” and “well-suited for the setting.”
Jennie wasn’t alone in choosing an understated look for the event. Song Hye Kyo, Byun Woo Seok, Kim Go Eun, Yoon Eun Hye, Lee Seung Gi and more also opted for a polished black-and-white style, drawing praise from fans who commended their sophisticated and wedding-appropriate fashion.
However, some international fans questioned the tone, noting the prevalence of black attire in the group photo, commenting that it felt “more like a funeral than a wedding.” People highlighted the difference in wedding cultures, contrasting the formal atmosphere of Korean weddings—often including workplace colleagues and business associates—with the more relaxed vibe typically seen in Western ceremonies. Others argued that while Korea adopts Western attire for the bride and groom, the reserved guest outfits seem out of place.
Fashion choices for wedding guests continue to be a hot topic in Korea. Actress Lee Yu Bi previously sparked conversation by wearing a pink two-piece to her sister’s wedding, accessorized with a magenta handbag. Lee later clarified that her outfit had been selected by her sister, who was the bride, putting an end to the discussion.
