Netflix’s highly anticipated series The Trunk is set to premiere worldwide on November 29th. This new mystery romance revolves around an eerie discovery—a trunk floating by a lakeshore—that reveals a secretive marriage service and the peculiar relationship between its two central characters.
Based on Kim Ryeo Ryeong’s acclaimed novel, The Trunk is brought to life under the direction of Kim Kyu Tae, known for hits like Our Blues and It’s Okay, That’s Love, with screenwriting by Park Eun Yeong, the writer of Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth.
Seo Hyun Jin and Gong Yoo‘s collaboration heightens anticipation for the series even more. Seo plays No In Ji, a woman who finds herself alone after marriage, while Gong plays Han Jeong Won, who suffers from profound loneliness despite being married. The series follows these two individuals, each harboring secrets and past traumas, as they attempt to fill the emptiness in their lives.
The newly released teaser poster captures Seo Hyun Jin as No In Ji entering Han Jeong Won’s (Gong Yoo) lavish yet ominous space. Jeong Won stands isolated on a spiral staircase with a glittering, precarious chandelier above. The tagline, “A mysterious marriage where reality and deception collide,” deepens the intrigue around their unusual partnership.
In the trailer, No In Ji and Han Jeong Won meet as “contract spouses,” with No In Ji entering her fifth marriage as Jeong Won’s temporary wife. As he reluctantly questions, “Do I refer to you as my wife? Is that how this works?” the two embark on a one-year marriage guided strictly by contract terms.
Adding to the complexity, Jeong Won’s ex-wife, Lee Seo Yeon (Jung Yun Ha), greets the new couple with a dry, “Congratulations on your marriage, honey,” hinting at the tension-laden dynamics between them. In another scene, she tells No In Ji, “Please be happy. I may be punishing Jeong Won, but I’m also giving him time off,” adding yet another layer of intrigue. The clip closes as a mysterious trunk sinks beneath the water, with No In Ji saying, “The idea of marriage just disgusts me,” intensifying the suspense surrounding the series.
The Trunk will be available globally on Netflix starting November 29th.
