RIIZE’s Seunghan, who previously halted activities due to a personal controversy, has officially canceled his return to the group. The decision, announced just two days after his comeback was initially confirmed, has left fans sharply divided.
On October 13th, RIIZE’s agency, Wizard Production, issued a formal apology, saying, “We sincerely apologize to BRIIZE (RIIZE’s fandom) for the confusion and pain caused by the announcement of Seunghan’s return. We deeply regret prioritizing the company’s perspective over the valuable time, growth, and support that RIIZE and BRIIZE have shared together.”
Earlier on 11th, SM Entertainment had announced Seunghan’s return, revealing that he would gradually rejoin the team for scheduled activities starting in November. However, backlash from fans quickly escalated, with protest wreaths sent to SM’s building, signaling fierce opposition to the decision.
Reflecting on the reaction, the agency explained, “After careful consideration of the feedback and responses from fans, we realized our decision caused more confusion and hurt. Seunghan has decided to leave the team, prioritizing the well-being of the members and fans.” The company added that it would “support Seunghan in pursuing his dreams and talents moving forward.”
On the same day, Seunghan shared a handwritten letter on Weverse, explaining his decision to leave RIIZE. “I’ve come to believe that stepping away from the team is the best way to avoid further pain and confusion,” he wrote. “I don’t want to hurt the fans, my fellow members, or the company any more than I already have.”
The news of Seunghan’s canceled return sparked polarizing reactions among fans. Some fans welcomed the decision, saying, “They should’ve expected the backlash,” “Fans made it happen,” and “At least they canceled it now.” Others, however, expressed disappointment and empathy for Seunghan, calling the decision “a second betrayal” for him.
On X, one user criticized the agency, commenting, “Announcing his return only to backtrack hurt everyone—both the members and the fans.”
Meanwhile, others on online communities like TheQoo voiced mixed opinions: “If they were going to bring him back, they shouldn’t have erased him so completely,” “Maybe he could still pursue a solo career,” and “The company hurt everyone—Seunghan, RIIZE, and BRIIZE.” Some criticized the extreme protest measures, with one commenter calling the flood of condolence wreaths sent to SM “disturbing.”
Seunghan’s exit has left RIIZE fans grappling with mixed emotions, marking yet another chapter in the ongoing controversy.
