Jung Hae In charmed viewers with a touching story about his mother during his appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block on October 9th. The actor, who was invited to the Cannes Film Festival for I, the Executioner (aka Veteran 2), shared some behind-the-scenes moments from his unforgettable trip.
“I still can’t believe it when I think about it,” Jung Hae In said, recalling the surreal experience. “I didn’t want to look too nervous, but my hands were shaking, and I had to keep putting them in my pockets to hide it.”
Yoo Jae Suk brought up how his mother shed tears after watching his film in Cannes, to which Jung Hae In admitted, “My family had the chance to come with me (to Cannes), but frankly, I didn’t really want my mom to come.”
He then talked about the change in his reluctance, sharing, “While filming ‘Veteran 2,’ I had a shift in my values. I had a conversation with Hwang Jung Min, and he said, ‘Wouldn’t it be great for your mom to brag about her son?’ But I’ve never liked that, so I always told her, ‘Please don’t talk about me to anyone.’ But when Hwang Jung Min heard that, he told me, ‘That’s being ungrateful,’ and it really stuck with me.”
The actor shared a funny moment when his mom cautiously asked, “Can I come with you to Cannes?” Jung Hae In initially agreed, but then had second thoughts, worrying that her presence might burden his director and co-stars. “I told her, ‘Actually, I don’t think it’ll work,’ but then she said, ‘You don’t know if you’ll ever go to Cannes again,’ and when she pleaded with me, I caved and said, ‘Alright, let’s go together.'”
Despite his initial hesitation, Jung Hae In admitted it was the right choice. When Jo Se Ho asked, “But aren’t you happy you brought her along?” Jung Hae In smiled and replied, “It was the best decision I made in 2024. Now, I’m trying to spend more time with my parents.”
