The K-Pop scene has become a colorful array of musical talent, vibrant imagery, and conceptualized dreams filled with flavor and, more often than not, beyond our imaginations.
Artists like AleXa continue to make K-Pop shine and her artistic glow isn’t to be missed. Born Alexandra Christine Schneiderman, AleXa debuted in October of 2019 with “BOMB” and has only found success after that. With various hits like “Back in Vogue” and “Wonderland” alongside her time training in Korea and even participating in Produce 101, AleXa has gathered all her experiences and combined it with her musical talent to become the extraordinary artist she is today.
Now, AleXa is cooking up another hit and amazed us with her latest release “Sick” which is a chill but punk song with strong lyrics that are explicit but true to AleXa’s nature and steers quite clear from K-Pop’s usual formula.
Now AleXa, sat and shared with ZAPZEE all the juicy details of her track and her unique experiences promoting such a new sound in our exclusive interview.
Q. After eight months you have returned with the single track “Sick” – tell us about the song and what inspired your lyrics.
AleXa: The meaning is something that’s very relevant to me; I feel like it’s a universal experience, placing someone on a pedestal, and feeling that they’re out of your league, that they’re too good for you. That feeling makes you sick, and I wanted to share a song that hopefully people could relate to.
Q. What kept you busy for the past eight months? Do you make time for yourself to rest and if so how do you rest?
AleXa: “I’ve been in and out of the country for various events and performances. I’m very grateful for the work that keeps me busy, and for the time that I have to myself to focus on my own music and to be with friends.”
Q. Tell us about your Jingle Ball tour with USA RADIO. You were the first female solo artist to participate. How was the experience for you?
AleXa: “It was a dream come true, honestly speaking. I remember watching the Jingle Ball broadcast with my family growing up, and now that I’ve been a part of it, it was such an honor. I had so much fun and met so many other incredible artists, including some that I grew up listening to.”
Q. You also appeared on the Kelly Clarkson Show – how was that? What do you think of Kelly? Are there any other celebrity shows you’d want to appear on?
AleXa: “Kelly is such a joy to be around and I am forever grateful that she asked to have me on a second time. She has such a warm and inviting presence; it’s that southern hospitality coming through. I would love nothing more than to be on Kelly again, in the future, and to either host or be the musical guest for SNL.”
Q. You’re starting Part 1 of your U.S. tour soon – which cities are you most excited to see?
AleXa: “I’m excited to visit all the cities on the tour list, of course, but I’m most excited to go to my hometown and perform in the iconic Cain’s Ballroom venue!”
Q. When traveling and performing, what is the number one thing you always need to have or prepare?
AleXa: “Without a doubt, it’s my AirPods. I need music to live and to prepare for my live shows.”
Q. What do you think of the TikTok sound trends? Have you ever thought of making ‘music for TikTok’ as people say?
AleXa: “While I am someone that enjoys TikTok and participating in trends, I don’t think I would ever make music that is directly for a social media platform. Nothing wrong with it, but I don’t see myself going down that route.”
Q. How has your life changed since debuting almost five years ago?
AleXa: “I have gained so much life experience, career experience and met so many wonderful people. I wouldn’t trade this life for any other.”
With that we were ready to wrap up the interview, but, AleXa had a final heartfelt message for our readers and her fans.
AleXa: “From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the love and support you continue to give to me. Thank you for being there for me when times get hard, and for the times when I’m soaring through the sky. You guys are my rock, my pillar, and I’m so grateful to have you all in my life.”
