Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won are set to captivate global audiences with their upcoming Disney Plus spy thriller Tempest. On May 29th, Walt Disney Company Korea confirmed the much-anticipated series will premiere in 2025.
Tempest is a high-stakes espionage drama. It follows diplomat Moon Ju (Jun Ji Hyun) as she teams up with elite special agent San Ho (Kang Dong Won) to uncover hidden truths. The star-studded cast has generated buzz since the production’s announcement, marking the first collaboration between the two acclaimed actors.
Jun Ji Hyun portrays Moon Ju, a former ambassador to the United States known for her credibility on the international stage. Her character unravels a political conspiracy behind an assassination plot. Kang Dong Won steps into the role of San Ho, a top-notch mercenary shrouded in mystery with an unknown nationality and past. This series also marks a new venture for the actor, as he takes on the additional role of producer for Tempest.
The collaboration of esteemed creators adds to the excitement. Screenwriter Jeong Seo Kyung, known for her work with director Park Chan Wook on films like Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, and Thirst, brings her exceptional storytelling to the project. Director Kim Hee Won, renowned for his nuanced direction in dramas such as Queen of Tears and Vincenzo, helms the series. Tempest marks their second collaboration following the tvN series Little Women.
They are joined by co-director Heo Myeong Hae, who has been redefining the action genre with films like The Roundup: Punishment. This powerhouse team promises to deliver a well-crafted narrative and distinct action sequences unique to Tempest.
Production for Tempest began in March, and the series is slated to debut as a Disney Plus original in 2025. Fans eagerly await this groundbreaking series that combines top-tier talent both in front of and behind the camera.
