LE SSERAFIM has made its mark in Japan’s music history.
Today, Oricon, a Japanese music statistics-tracking company, revealed that LE SSERAFIM emerged as the top rookie group with the highest sales in its Annual Ranking 2023 between December 12th, 2022, and December 10th, 2023.
The company highlighted this achievement: “LE SSERAFIM generated 2.12 billion yen during the period. This is the first time in 20 years that a female rookie act has surpassed 2 billion yen in sales since 2003.”
LE SSERAFIM also wrapped up a successful solo tour in Japan, attracting a total of 60,000 attendees. Considering various elements like performances, endorsement fees and the uncounted first solo tour, the group’s overall achievements in Japan for the past year are expected to be even more significant.
LE SSERAFIM’s success extends to music sales. Their Japanese debut single “FEARLESS,” released in January of last year, broke the record for the highest first-week sales of any Korean girl group’s debut album in Japan. As the debut single by an overseas female artist to sell over 500,000 copies, the group earned the prestigious “double platinum” certification from the Japan Recording Industry Association. Additionally, their Korean debut album, UNFORGIVEN, released in May of last year, secured the top spot on the Oricon weekly album rankings as of May 15th, 2023, and stayed in the Top 100 for an impressive 21 weeks.
