MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama My Dearest has clinched five awards at the 2023 Grimae Awards.
The drama received recognition in five categories: Grand Prize, Best Directing, Best Lighting, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The Grimae Awards, established in 1993 by the Korea Directors of Photography Society (KDPS), recognizes film directors who have pursued excellent and experimental cinematography in projects produced by each broadcasting company over the past year and actors who showed great performances as voted by directors.
KDPS explained the decision to award My Dearest the Grand Prize, stating, “The drama expertly maximized viewer engagement with smooth visuals with dynamic movements. The experimental contrasts in the visuals effectively portrayed the personalities and emotions of the actors.”
During the acceptance speech, Namkoong Min expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m genuinely thrilled to be here, more for the joy of the moment than the actual award. While I may be the one receiving it, I want to take this chance to express my gratitude to the directors of photography and lighting directors who are here with us. It feels great to have the opportunity to say thank you in this setting.”
Ahn Eun Jin remarked, “I was wondering what to say, but Namkoong Min really expressed everything so perfectly. I’m feeling the same level of gratitude he shared in all the details.” Continuing, she added, “Even before we kicked off My Dearest, there were loads of worries and challenges, but the moment I stepped onto the set, everything just fell into place. Got incredible support from everyone, directors, and the whole crew on set.”
