Kang Min Kyung came under fire for allegedly paying extremely low wages to people working at her shopping mall.

On January 5th, the singer’s apparel company put up a job post seeking new employees with experience. The position had many responsibilities, including customer service, complaint management, communication with overseas clients through emails, managing overall customer service functionality and establishing a business goal by analyzing client needs. However, the annual salary was advertised to be 25 million KRW ($19,700), which is way too low for an experienced role.

Regarding the issue, the singer immediately posted an explanation on her Instagram account: “The person in charge of this position had accidentally included the annual salary of a college graduate instead for this customer service job post.”

According to a recruitment website, the average salary that her employees received last year was around $18,130. Many are skeptical that the wage for the experienced role will go up any higher than $19,690, considering the data on the website. Some are bringing up her Youtube video where she showed off her gas stove priced at nearly $21,270. Others showed disappointment, saying that “the new employee’s salary is cheaper than the stove she has in her house.”

The celebrity has been running her own fashion business, Avie Muah, since 2020. According to job search websites, the company recorded $2.68 million in sales just recently. She also made headlines when she recently purchased a $5.12 million building in Seoul for her online mall’s office.
