Lee Seung Gi became the first star to win both the entertainment and acting awards.
The actor won the Grand Prize at the 2022 KBS Drama Awards for his work in The Law Cafe on December 31st. He previously received the 2018 SBS Entertainment Awards with All The Butlers.
In his acceptance speech, Lee Seung Gi said, “I’m really nervous. This year has probably been the hardest year in my life. I feel both grateful and sorry for receiving this big award. Although The Law Cafe cast members went home empty-handed, I would like to receive this award on behalf of everyone involved in the drama series. This award reflects all their hard work.”
“As many of you know, I recently had a personal issue. I was unsure if I should or should not attend the event because I knew I couldn’t fully enjoy the show and I didn’t want to ruin the night by unwittingly making an impolite, stern-looking face. However, I came here thinking that my personal issue should not be the reason for me to miss the night where I get to appreciate all the hard work of the people involved in the show. All your support gave me great strength,” he added, expressing his gratitude.
The actor also mentioned why he shaved his head. “I’m currently filming a new movie called Big Family (literal title), and I am a monk in that movie. Don’t get me wrong—many of you are looking at me with sad eyes, but you do not have to,” he said, making everyone laugh.
He closed out the night by confidently stating his future plans, “I will continue to promote my activities and fight for justice,” and received a round of applause.
