Decibel has emerged victorious over Ditto on the same opening day.
Decibel opened No.1 at the box office, garnering 68,539 viewers. The movie also beat Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which attracted 63,090 spectators.
Decibel is an action thriller that follows a terrorist (played by Lee Jong Suk), who wants to take over the city with a special bomb that explodes when it detects a certain level of noise, and a former Navy commander (Kim Rae Won), who becomes the target of the terrorist threat. Kim Rae Won, Lee Jong Suk and Cha Eun Woo star in the show.
Ditto starring Yeo Jin Goo, Cho Yi Hyun, Kim Hye Yoon, Na In Woo and Bae In Hyuk opened at No.3 at the box office. The show had 56,742 viewers registered and became the highest-grossing film of all South Korean romance films ever released in the last three years. Its opening score was close to that of 2021 films — Nothing Serious (40,594 people), Perhaps Love (42,859 people), New Year Blues (21,021 people) and 2020 Josée (22,607 people). Ditto tells the story of a boy from 1999 and a girl from 2022 conversing through an old, mysterious radio device.
Meanwhile, Decibel needs $9 million — nearly 2.4 million tickets sold — in theatrical gross to break even. However, whether the film could achieve its break-even point is in still question as nowadays audiences prefer lighter films over dark, serious ones like Decibel. The production cost and break-even point of Ditto have not been revealed yet.
