BLACKPINK has shown the world how bright they shine together.
On the 23rd, Rolling Stones announced that BLACKPINK was making the cover of their June issue. And along with the news, they released a lengthy interview with the girls under the title “How Blackpink Went From Strangers to Sisters to Pop Supernovas.”
According to HYPEBAE, BLACKPINK is the third girl group to make the cover of the magazine, following Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child. And of course, they’re the first Asian girl group to achieve the feat.
Although BLACKPINK was a huge success, the journey to the top was definitely not easy. Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa, and Rosé recalled their YG trainee days when they were under a strict training system, including receiving monthly evaluations.
“I’d call my mom [in Thailand], wanting to quit, and she’d tell me to hang on just another year, just hang on,” Lisa shared. “If I was going through a hard time, I’d go to the bathroom, sob my heart out, then on to the next thing,” said Rosé. “I was on autopilot or something. If you told me to do that again, I could never.”
As of now, all BLACKPINK members except Jisoo have made their solo debut. “I’m not sure how much I want to go solo yet,” she answered. “The music I listen to, the music I can do, and the music I want to do — what should I choose? I love songs with lots of instruments. I love different bands and rock music. What do people want from me? There’s a chaos of conflicting questions.”
“Even if we’re 70 and we have different lives, I’ll still feel like I’m Blackpink,” Jennie said, showing her love for her groupmates. “As corny as it sounds, I don’t think BLACKPINK will ever end in my heart. It’s a part of my family. You can’t deny your family.”
