We Became a Family, the new variety show co-produced by MBC and Discovery Channel Korea, has been programmed as the new Mnet show.
According to TV Daily, We Became a Family will air on Mnet on December 6th at 9:30 PM KST.
We Became a Family is a reality show that features various episodes of K-pop stars living as virtual families. Previously, the program made headlines for its stellar cast: Wonder Girls’ Yubin; g.o.d’s Son Hoyoung; Super Junior’s Yesung; BTOB’s Seo Eun Kwang; WayV’s XiaoJun, YangYang, Hendery; THE BOYZ’s Hyunjae; AB6IX’s Lee Daehwi; IZ* ONE’s Kang Hyewon; and Lim Nayoung.
However, the show got off to a rocky start. MBC and Discovery Channel jointly invested in and tried to sell overseas publication rights through the appearances of many K-pop stars. Yet, the disagreement surfaced over programming.
Contrary to the wishes of the production team and cast members, who had originally expected the show to air on MBC, the network tried to program it on MBC every1. And due to the conflict, the show postponed its premiere, which was slated for October. Until November, confusion continued between broadcasters and PR agencies, and some cast members lost their faith.
Then, out of the blue, We Became a Family appeared on Mnet’s schedule. At first, there was pushback from the cast and crew, but the only alternative they had was dawn time on MBC every1. In the end, the cast couldn’t strongly oppose the network, and Mnet programming was finally confirmed.
It was MBC that had kicked off the production, but the show will have its premiere on a different network. The PR agency stated that We Became Family will air on MBC every1 someday, but nobody knows when that “someday” will be.
