From Kingdom writer Kim Eun Hee to a stellar cast like Jun Ji Hyun and Ju Ji Hoon, everything about tvN’s Jirisan was highly anticipated even before its premiere. However, it seems like the drama is only getting poor reviews.
After the first two episodes which started off strong garnering average nationwide viewership ratings of 10 percent, Jirisan saw a big drop. And even after its big twist and turns, the series has failed to bounce back to its previous ratings. On top of that, an online shopping mall was spotted for using a rather upsetting phrase to promote their NEPA products.
Recently, an online company store for employees offered a special discount on NEPA’s padded jumpers. And the marketing phrase they used was the following: “Jirisan is a flop, but NEPA is NEPA.” NEPA is a brand that invested in creating the drama that featured numerous rangers on the mountain, starring Jun Ji Hyun.
Since the drama is only on its mid-way, the phrase “Jirisan is a flop” humiliated the production team and the other brands that invested in the work. Plus, it’s hard to overlook that NEPA was once criticized for putting excessive product placements in the first few episodes of the drama.
In response, an official from NEPA shared, “The online mall (Where it was posted) isn’t the one that we run. We’ve confirmed that it was posted on a pop-up page of an online company store for employees.” The phrase that caused a stir is now deleted.
Meanwhile, the 16-part series Jirisan will air its 11th episode on the 27th.
