KBS has confirmed the premiere date of their new idol drama Imitation.
According to DongA News, Imitation will premiere in May as a follow-up of KBS’s Friday drama Dear. M. Based on the webtoon of the same name, Imitation will be a tribute to Korean idols.
Since the first episode released in 2014, the webtoon received explosive popularity with more than 4.5 billion views and more than 600,000 cumulative comments on Kakao Page. This project’s worldview revolves around four artists/groups: “top star” Larima, “perfect idols” SHAX, “growing idols” Tea Party, and “passionate idols” Sparkling. The realistic yet exciting portrayal of the idol industry and fandoms will arouse curiosity among the viewers, who may not be a fan of K-pop.
In October last year, KBS has confirmed the cast lineup that includes Parasite actress Jung Ji So; ATEEZ’s Yunho, Seonghwa, Jongho, and San; SF9’s Chani and Hwiyoung; U-KISS’s Jun; T-ara’s Jiyeon; former I.O.I and PRISTIN member Lim Nayoung; Yuri; Ahn Jung Hoon; Minseo; Boys’ Republic’s Suwoong; g.o.d’s Danny Ahn; and Shim Eun Jin.
The drama adaptation of Imitation will be directed by Han Hyun Hee, best known for Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung and Solomon’s Perjury, and penned by Choi Sun Young and Kim Min Jung.
