Jung Il Woo confessed that he was diagnosed with partial amnesia and cerebral aneurysm, and that’s why he stores ten of thousands of photos.
Jung Il Woo appeared in the first episode of Phone Cleansing and shared all the photos he has collected in the past decade. “If I get married and have kids thirty years later, I want to show this to them. So I kept these,” he said.
Through the episode, the cast successfully reduced the number of photos on Jung’s phone from 70,987 to 7,000. When members showed their surprise at the amount of his photo collections, Jung shared, “I got involved in a car accident in the past and suffered a partial amnesia. Since then, I take a lot of pictures because (these photos) let you remember every moment. (Because of the symptoms) I know my acquaintances by face, but I can’t remember where I met them. Not everything is erased, but I can’t remember bits and parts.”
Showing the pictures, Jung Il Woo shared his memories with the emcees. Seeing that the actor has visited the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) three times, they asked Jung why the route meant so much to him. “I was filming the drama Golden Rainbow and had a terrible headache. So I went to a hospital and was diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm. This illness is like having a bomb inside your head because if the blood vessels swell up and ruptures, I could die of a cerebral hemorrhage,” Jung replied.
After the diagnose, he suffered severe depression. Jung Il Woo added, “So I thought I should go to the Camino de Santiago, the place I’ve always wanted to visit since I was a child. Visiting the place, I learned how to enjoy the present.”
