JYPE disclosed on the 11th saying, “After thorough discussions with the members prior to the expiration of the exclusive contract with GOT7 on the 19th, we decided not to renew the contract, under the agreement.”

GOT7 has been a global idol group affiliated with the JYPE for more than seven years since its debut on January 16th, 2014. JYPE thanked all fans (I GOT7), and GOT7 for making contributions to the growth of K-Pop and JYPE as they expressed their gratitude.

Fans are expressing their disappointment over the failure to re-sign. They are assuming that it will be difficult to see GOT7 as a whole in the future, as each member is receiving proposals from different agencies. However, since the group only left the agency without disbanding, their reunion can be looked forward to. Even Girls’ Generation and Shinhwa, ‘The long-living idol’, are continuing their activities as a team even if their members are in other agencies.

According to the standard exclusive contract for pop culture artists (mainly singers) released by the Fair Trade Commission, GOT7 can regroup under their name even after leaving JYPE. Article 8 (related to Trademark Rights) states that the Producing party has the right to develop, register, and use the intellectual properties during the contract period by using anything that shows the artists’ identity, such as photos, portraits, handwritings, and names (real names, stage names, and nicknames.) However, all rights shall be transferred to the artist once the contract period ends.”

GOT7 members also posted photos of themselves on their SNS with the hashtag #GOT7 Forever after the news of agency transferrals. As a group that showed strong teamwork, expectations are high for the day members will regroup as GOT7.
