The grand prize for the 2020 SBS Entertainment Awards went to Kim Jong Kook.
At the SBS Entertainment Awards held on the 19th, Kim Jong Kook won the Grand Prize in recognition of his achievements in Running Man and My Little Old Boy. Thus, Kim Jong Kook became the second singer since Lee Hyori to take home the grand prize in both the K-pop and Entertainment awards.
Putting aside the congratulatory messages to the winners, netizens expressed discomfort in two points: “performative” quarantine and absurd number of awards. Celebrities attended the event with masks that had their faces printed on, but they were sitting close to each other and took the masks off while receiving the awards, making netizens question the network’s quarantine process. What’s worse is the fact that SBS created a bunch of awards that have absolutely no meaning, such as the Scene Stealer Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
