BTS Dominates the 2020 MAMA by Sweeping All 4 Grand Prizes + Rest of the Winners

Held under the theme of “Gate to NEW-TOPIA”, this year’s MAMA was held on Dec 6. The entire ceremony was held online in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Song Joong Ki hosted the event, while a number of K-pop’s biggest names presented jaw-dropping performances.

All 4 Grand Prizes – Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Worldwide Icon of the Year – went to the mega Korean act BTS. Their mesmerizing achievements didn’t stop there. BTS took home a total of 8 awards, once again proving that the year 2020 was indeed theirs.

Though the performances’ quality was praised, many netizens showed disappointment in the “excessive splitting” of the awards. For example, the Best Dance Performance award was divided into 6 categories – Best Dance Performance for Male Group, Female Group, Solo and Favorite Dance Performance for Male Group, Female Group, Solo.
