Mnet’s abuse of power is causing public outrage.
Just yesterday, Mnet shocked the whole nation when the court released the names of trainees who were victims of Produce 101 vote manipulation. Here is the list: Season 1 (Kim Soo Hyun, Seo Hye Rin), Season 2 (Sung Hyun Woo, Kang Dong Ho), Season 3 (Lee Gaeun, Han Cho Won), and Season 4 (Anzardi Timothee, Kim Kook Heon, Lee Jin Woo, Goo Jung Mo, Lee Jin Hyuk, Geum Dong Hyun).
But Mnet didn’t stop. Today, they have declared that IZ*ONE will still perform at the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and are still pushing for Wanna One’s joint performance.
They announced that IZ*ONE will still release their new album on December 7 as scheduled and will also appear at the 2020 MAMA. Currently, IZ*ONE is the only project team produced by the Produce series that is still continuing its promotions. Mnet, who is fully responsible for the Produce scandal, stated, “Mnet will take responsibility for the victimized trainees and will fully support IZ*ONE as they are on their path to their dreams right now,” using the “victims” as their shield.
On top of that, Mnet still hasn’t given up on Wanna One’s performance even after all of this. And what made the netizens frown even more is their method of recruiting Wanna One members. When the 12 members, who are all continuing their solo or group activities, gather as Wanna One one again, there needs to be a “merit” in it for them as well. However, according to officials, Mnet declared that they only needed a “group” performance. Instead of discussing compensation, they even demanded the agency, where victims of vote manipulation are also affiliated, to “provide” them with Wanna One members. As if this wasn’t enough, they even “ordered” these members to appear on their shows.
If they are trying to force the members back on stage together, they should at least guarantee the quality of the stage. However, Wanna One has never carried out a single rehearsal yet. Two years have already passed since Wanna One disbanded, and with only two weeks left until MAMA, how are they supposed to practice and perform on stage?
Only the members’ hearts are bruised by Mnet’s power trip.
