‘Road to Kingdom’ Effect? ONF ’ ONEUS All See a Boost in Album Sales

The performance of boy bands from Mnet’s Road to Kingdom is quite impressive. Many say that they have seized the chance to win the “comeback war” that took place after the broadcast.

Road to Kingdom, which aired from April 30 to June 18, is a program in which seven teams – PENTAGON, ONF, GOLDEN CHILD, THE BOYZ, VERIVERY, ONEUS, TOO – compete on music charts. It is also the boy group version of Queendom, which received great love last year.

Although it didn’t garner much viewership at the time of the broadcast, the final live broadcast surpassed 2% viewership (based on Nielsen Korea) among women in their 10s and 20s, ranking first in the same time slot.

After the show was over, GOLDEN CHILD, VERIVERY, TOO, ONF, and ONEUS, released their new albums and saw their album sales increase three to four times during their early sales period (a week from its release) compared to their previous album. This is about 20,000 to 50,000 copies more. It may not be very much, but it’s significant growth for them.

GOLDEN CHILD, who made their debut in August 2017, sold about 26,900 copies with their 4th mini-album Take A Leap, released on June 23. It is about three times more from the previous album (which sold about 9,700 copies), and even higher than 26,800 copies recorded with their 2nd mini-album Miracle, released in January 2018.

VERIVERY, who debuted in September 2018, always sold about 5,000 copies in the first week with their three mini-albums and one single album, but with their 4th mini-album FACE YOU, released on July 1, they sold around 18,000 copies.

First-year group TOO saw a significant boost compared to their debut album (sold about 6,300 copies) when they recorded 23,000 album sales with Running TOOgether released on July 15. Four-year group ONF, who released their new album SPIN OFF, also saw a rise in their album sales when they sold 27,600 copies after selling 9,000 copies with their previous album.

Two-year group ONEUS, who made a comeback on August 19, sold 55,857 copies with their 4th mini-album LIVED. This is about four times more than 13,000 copies recorded with their single album IN ITS TIME released just five months ago in March. Selling more than 50,000 copies in the second year can certainly be considered as a rapid growth.

In September, THE BOYZ, the final winner of Road to Kingdom, will make their comeback. Attention is also drawn to what kind of achievements the group, who won the title of “triple No.1” and final winner with their solid narrative and eye-catching performances, will gain.

Though we might have to keep our eyes on more, it seems clear that Road to Kingdom, which was considered a failure, had a positive impact on these seven teams.
