SHINee’s Onew will be discharged during his final vacation leave due to COVID-19.
According to EDaily on July 8th, SHINee Onew will be not be going back to the military after his holiday leave. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, soldiers on their final vacation will be discharged due to precautions regarding COVID-19. Onew will retain his military status until July 20th, which was when he was originally going to be discharged.
SM Entertainment responded to these reports: “It is true that Onew will not be returning to the military after his last vacation leave. He will be discharged per COVID-19 prevention protocol. There will be no special discharge event.”
Onew, who enlisted on December 10th, 2018, received training at the 12th Infantry Division and was assigned into the military band in the 2nd Infantry Division.
Onew was in the cast of the military musical Return: The Promise of the Day while he served.
