Amid favorable reviews, Shin Hyun Bin successfully transformed her image as an actor with her role as Jang Gyeo Wool, a resident of general surgery, in Hospital Playlist.
Shin Hyun Bin said in an interview at the end of the drama, “The filming ended at the end of April. But it didn’t feel like it was over because the drama was still airing. I sent a month feeling that the drama was both over and not over.”
Hospital Playlist was the new work of producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung, who hired a bunch of aspiring actors in the film industry in their previous works, Reply series and Prison Playbook. How was Shin Hyun Bin selected to play Jang Gyeo Wool?
Shin Hyun Bin said, “Director Shin Won Ho said he wanted to meet me after watching the drama Confession I starred in. I’ve met with him three times, and at the last meeting, he told me about the character and offered me the role.”
What was it like working with producer Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung, who the actors always want to work with?
She said, “I think I know why they are wanted. It was a filming site where there was nothing so uncomfortable that I wondered how this could happen. In order for the actors to act, there needs to be a solid script. Because everything was designed so well, it was easy to perform.”
Jang Gyeo Wool, played by Shin Hyun Bin, is the only general surgery resident at Yulje Hospital, who seems cold but has a warm heart.
“I’ve been thinking a lot about how I wish I looked like a real resident. I wore glasses, little makeup, and only one outfit because I thought that right for my character,” she explained.
Jang Gyeo Wool was loved by viewers for her ardent crush for Ahn Jung Won, a pediatric surgeon. At the end of season 1, Ahn Jung Won accepted her confession and kissed her, raising questions about their love in season 2.
“I think all the things that have been bottled up because Jang Gyeo Woll and Ahn Jung Won never expressed and admitted seemed to have burst out in the kiss scene. I think how Jang Gyeo Wool confessed, and Ahn Jung Woon replied with a kiss matched the feelings the two have been carefully bearing so far,” said Shin Hyun Bin as she expressed her thoughts about the kiss scene.
How was it working with Yoo Yeon Seok, who played Ahn Jung Won?
She said, “There was tension between us. Because the moments we looked at each other are different, we saw those scenes of each other when they aired, and I was thankful that we got to build up a detailed narrative of emotions together.”
Hospital Playlist already confirmed the production of season 2 in the second half of this year. Will the story of Ahn Jung Won and Jang Gyeo Wool continue?
Shin Hyun Bin said, “I think it will. I haven’t heard anything yet. I think they’ll tell me later, but I think it’ll be just what the viewers expect.”

I enjoyed the First Season. The storylines have been exceptional, there’s no real villian for a change just hard working people going about their lives.

Ahhh, my favorite couple. I love their love story and how it developed. Gyeo-ul’s confession at the end was so nerve wracking, but at the same time, it was so brave of her to finally say what she was feeling inside for him. I am proud of Jeong-won for finally realizing that he was not meant to become a priest but was actually meant to love Gyeo-ul, the love of his life.
