Statistics Korea apologized for the inappropriate comment they posted on Rain‘s “GANG” music video.

Previously on May 1, Statistics Korea wrote the number of views recorded in Rain’s “KANG” music video in the comment section and then wrote down the number of views converted into “UBD.” “UBD,” derived from Um Bok Dong’s initials, is a newly coined term that was born when Rain’s film Race to Freedom : Um Bok Dong became the box office failure.

When the controversy over the inappropriate remark was surfaced, Statistics Korea posted a lengthy apology on its official YouTube channel community on May 5.

They wrote:

“First of all, we apologize sincerely.

We wanted to communicate with people more closely and wrote the comment in Rain’s music video without paying careful attention, and we would like to apologize.

We deeply reflect on the fact that we mentioned the high number of views in the form of UBD. We didn’t mean to harm anyone, but it is true that we never thought about it hurting someone’s feelings. We’re sorry for causing such concern.

Our desire to communicate with people came first that we never thought of people’s feelings and left such comments. We deeply regret it.

From now on, we will try to understand and consider the people better.

We sincerely apologize once again.”
