On 1st (local time), The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced this year’s new members.
This year, Academy has officially invited 395 artists and executives, including Youn Yuh Jung as a new member of an actor. Steven Yeun, Han Ye Ri, who starred in Minari with Youn, and director Issac Chung are among the new class of artists and executives invited to join the Academy.
AMPAS gives the Academy awards at the most prestigious awards ceremony in the US, the Oscars. And the membership qualification is open to everyone in the international movie industry. Should they accept the invitation, they would be able to cast a vote at the Academy Awards.
Last year, at the 92nd Academy Awards, director Bong Joon Ho, who had received four awards, including Best Picture, and actors from Parasite were appointed as new members. Up until now, the Academy has a total number of 9362 members.
