Surely Tomorrow marked Park Seo Joon‘s first return to the romance genre in seven years and, as he now admits, also became his first project after pushing through a long stretch of burnout.
“I worked nonstop for a long time. I was grateful for every opportunity, but I’m only human, and burnout eventually hit me. There was a line that said, ‘I tried running, I tried walking, nothing worked, so I drank,’ and I understood what that meant,” he said.
Rather than forcing himself forward, Park chose to slow down. “I started taking longer trips, running regularly, and building a steady routine. That process made me stronger, and ‘Surely Tomorrow’ became the project I chose after getting through burnout. I finally had the energy to fully focus. In that sense, this drama is something I’m deeply grateful for.”
Looking back on the romance at the center of the story, Park shared that the way his character approaches love is not far from his own. “When I date, I give it everything. I hate living with regret. Whether it’s acting or love, I believe in going as far as I can in that moment. That’s how I approach relationships, too.”
He also spoke about the 11-year age gap with his co-star Won Ji An, saying his initial worries quickly faded. “She has a calm presence and a mature tone in her voice. During rehearsals, I felt a fresh kind of energy, and we kept building each scene through our reactions. Since romance is all about chemistry, we talked a lot and completed each scene together.”
Now nearing 40, Park is thinking more seriously about the next stage of his life. “Personally, I really want to get married in my 40s. A friend once told me, ‘Marriage is part two of life, and having children is part three.’ Marriage is a huge turning point, and it’s something I want to experience. I think there is a kind of happiness you can only feel at that stage.”
As Surely Tomorrow comes to a close, Park Seo Joon says he is entering this next chapter with steadier energy and a clearer sense of himself.
