A former police officer accused of leaking confidential information related to the late actor Lee Sun Kyun‘s drug investigation has been sentenced to three years in prison.

According to legal sources on November 3rd, prosecutors requested a three-year jail term for a former police lieutenant, identified only as A, during the final hearing at the Incheon District Court. The defendant was charged with violating the Public Official Secrets Act, among other offenses.

A was accused of photographing and sending internal investigation materials—specifically, a case progress report—regarding Lee’s drug allegations to two journalists in October 2023. The leaked documents reportedly contained personal details such as the names, criminal records, and occupations of those involved in the investigation.

After the incident, A was dismissed from the force but later filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn the dismissal against the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency Chief. The former officer, however, lost the case in the first trial.

The sentencing hearing for the case is scheduled for December 17th at the Incheon District Court.
