Netflix series Dear Hongrang has ranked 6th on the Global Top 10 Non-English TV list and released behind-the-scenes pictures.
Since its release on May 16th, Dear Hongrang has recorded 2,200,000 views in just three days. It entered the Top 10 rankings in 12 countries worldwide, securing the 6th spot in the Global Top 10 Non-English TV category. The series has garnered praise both at home and abroad for its compelling mix of genre, its vivid depiction of the Joseon era and the powerful performances of its cast.

Korean media outlets have praised the series for its production quality and genre-blending innovation. Sports Today’s reporter Lim Si Ryeong wrote, “It pioneers a new genre, a mystery melodrama that weaves together intricate character relationships and beautifully Korean-style direction.” Single List’s Kang Bo Ra commented, “The tension created by the character dynamics and the fast-paced mystery drives the story forward without a dull moment. With not only the art direction and costumes, which are crucial in historical dramas, but also action sequences, it offers a rich visual experience.” Sports Seoul’s Won Seong Yoon described it as “a work like an ink-wash painting.”

International outlets also responded enthusiastically. TIME described the ending as “bittersweet,” adding that the nature of it “almost lets you really sit with those emotions in a more grave way.” Decider praised the series, saying, “Dear Hongrang is a multi-layered story with good performances and stunning period visuals that should get more interesting as it goes along.” The South China Morning Post highlighted the show’s visual and auditory appeal: “In addition to beautiful sets and costumes and the use of high-contrast lighting and composition, the show also has a prominent score led by a twanging, bass-heavy theme.”
Viewers around the world have shown equally strong reactions. Comments include: “Stunned by the sheer Korean beauty—especially the hanbok, which is absolutely stunning,” “The cinematography and acting were excellent, and the intricately connected plot maintained immersion and tension right to the end—I binged it all at once,” and “Totally worth watching from start to finish. The color palette is vibrant, and the OST blends seamlessly with the storyline.”
