DKZ member Jaechan has revealed EXO’s D.O. as his professional role model in a recent interview.
The artist sat down with iMBC following the finale of Channel A’s Check-in Hanyang. The period series, which wrapped its 16-episode run on the 9th, follows the lives of young Joseon-era workers at “Yongcheonru,” the kingdom’s largest entertainment house where anyone could become king – for the right price.
Jaechan, who shot to prominence through the 2022 BL series Semantic Error, credits the show as his acting career’s turning point. He has since maintained a packed schedule, appearing in three consecutive dramas—Bitter Sweet Hell, My Sweet Mobster, and Check-in Hanyang—earning him recognition.
“Before ‘Semantic Error,’ singing was my main focus and acting felt more like a side job,” Jaechan shared in the interview. “But after receiving so much love through ‘Semantic Error’ and filming multiple projects back-to-back, I developed a serious approach to acting.” He added, “Watching veteran actors perform made me realize I needed to elevate my craft.”
In an industry full of idol-actors, Jaechan specifically pointed to EXO’s D.O. as his inspiration. “He’s showing incredible activity as a singer, and he’s also delivering amazing performances in acting. I always look at D.O. and think that it’s possible to excel in both singing and acting, so I try to follow in his footsteps,” he explained.
The star also shared his aspirations for DKZ, stating, “As a group, we’ve had this goal since debut—we’d love to see our song in the top 10 of the music charts. They are the ‘hidden gems,’ we want to make a comeback with ‘CRAZY NIGHT’ and ‘LUPIN.’ We had many performances without an audience due to COVID-19, and I feel we could have shown even better energy.”
Regarding his second solo album, Jaechan revealed, “The release date hasn’t been set yet. While I wrote and composed all the songs for my first album, for the second one, I aim to collaborate with other composers to create an album of even higher quality.”
