tvN’s Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born ended its run on a high, achieving its highest ratings yet. According to Nielsen Korea, the November 17th finale recorded an average of 16.5% and a peak of 18.2% nationwide, and an impressive 17.1% average and 18.8% peak in the Seoul metropolitan area, securing the No. 1 spot across all channels during its time slot.

The final episode followed the Maeran Theater Company’s last-ditch effort to overcome severe financial troubles with an unprecedented and experimental production, The Legend of the Twin Towers. After an audition, the lead role of Asadal, a Baekje stonemason, went to Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri). Her rival Yeong Seo (Shin Ye Eun), gracefully accepted the result and took on the role of Dal Bi, a fellow stonemason who admires Asadal’s talent while quietly envying him.

With everyone’s support from the company, Jeong Nyeon and Yeong Seo gave their all on stage, delivering performances that hinted the Maeran Theater Company’s journey was far from over. Jeong Nyeon, in particular, captivated audiences with a fresh, daring portrayal of a crazed artist, breaking away from the stoic “Prince of Maeran” image established by Ok Kyung (Jung Eun Chae). Her transformation solidified her as the company’s new shining star and its future leader.

Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born is set in post-Korean War 1950s and follows Jeong Nyeon, a naturally gifted vocalist, as she navigates the fierce competition, camaraderie, and personal growth on her journey to becoming the greatest gukgeuk (Korean opera) performer.
