A viral photo allegedly showing former EXO member Kris Wu with significant weight gain in prison has been revealed to be an AI-generated image.
The photo recently spread across Chinese social media, with claims that Kris had gained a considerable amount of weight while serving his prison sentence. In the image, a man wearing a red shirt appears much heavier than Kris’s previously slim figure, though his facial features closely resemble the former K-pop star. The dramatic difference in his appearance led many netizens to speculate about his physical condition in prison.
However, social media users began questioning the photo’s authenticity, noting that the man was wearing civilian clothes rather than a prison uniform. They later tracked down what appeared to be the original footage: a 2015 interview Kris gave to Chinese media outlet Sohu, before his imprisonment. In the original video, Kris is wearing the same red shirt seen in the viral image.
According to online discussions, the viral photo was created by altering footage from the old interview to make Kris appear significantly heavier. The image is therefore not evidence of weight gain during his incarceration, and claims about his current physical condition remain unconfirmed.
Kris has also been the subject of false death rumors. Previously, rumors claimed that Kris had died in prison after being assaulted or going on a prolonged hunger strike. Chinese police denied the claims, calling them fake news, and the rumors eventually faded.
In 2022, Kris was sentenced to 13 years in prison for crimes including rape and group licentiousness. He is expected to be deported to Canada after completing his sentence.
No official photos of Kris during his current imprisonment have been released.
