The promotional agency for KBS2’s upcoming historical drama Munmu (literal title) has reportedly been hacked, potentially exposing the personal information of some cast members and portions of the script.
According to TV Daily on July 27, the agency responsible for promoting Munmu sent a notice to the drama’s cast agencies on July 23, explaining the details of the data breach and outlining measures to address the issue.
The report stated that the promotional agency discovered the leak after receiving a threatening email from an unidentified hacker on the morning of July 23. The compromised data allegedly includes parts of the drama’s script, as well as contact information for some actors and agency staff members.
KBS and the actors’ respective agencies are currently investigating the extent of the breach and what information may have been exposed. However, reports indicate that not all cast members were affected by the incident.
An industry insider expressed concern, saying, “While the leak of personal information is a serious matter, the script leak could cause even greater damage to the actors and production team, especially with a significant amount of time remaining before the drama’s premiere.”
Meanwhile, Munmu is a large-scale historical epic drama that marks KBS’s return to the genre three years after Korea–Khitan War. The series reportedly has a production budget of approximately 30 billion won ($20 million) and is expected to be one of KBS’s biggest productions.
