A new family crime drama is officially underway.
Disowned (working title) has confirmed its cast—Byun Yo Han, Esom, Kim Jun Han and Kim Jong Soo—and has kicked off filming this April, with a 2027 release planned.
The film follows the powerful Yedong Kwon family, who have run a dangerous illegal business for generations. After the sudden death of the family’s heir, a fierce and uncontrollable power struggle erupts over who will take his place.
Byun Yo Han stars as Park Ki Tae, a loyal fixer who has long handled the family’s dirty work. After the death of his close friend’s father, he steps in to help secure the heir position for Kwon Do Young, played by Kim Jun Han.
Esom plays Kwon So Hyun, the eldest daughter who distanced herself from the family’s criminal legacy and built a life in Seoul. Returning home for the first time in years, she finds herself caught in the middle of an unpredictable succession battle.
Kim Jun Han takes on the role of Kwon Do Young, the rightful heir who is expected to take over the family business after his father’s death—but faces skepticism from the elders, who doubt his capabilities. While relying on his friend Park Ki Tae and his sister Kwon So Hyun, he also harbors a growing ambition to prove himself as a true leader.
Kim Jong Soo rounds out the cast as Kwon Byung Ryeol, an uncle hungry for power, bringing a commanding presence as he threatens his nephews in the fight for control.
Disowned comes from Star Platinum, the production company behind Netflix’s Good News, and marks the feature debut of director Kim Sun Kyung. The story is expected to dive deep into traditional patriarchal systems and the internal power dynamics of a family.
Director Byun Sung Hyun, known for The Merciless, also joins as a co-writer, adding further intensity to the film’s gripping narrative.
Following a successful script reading, Disowned has officially begun filming and is set to hit theaters in 2027.
