Hwang Jung Eum has found herself under fire again, this time over a toy giveaway.

Hwang posted a photo on social media on February 12th, showing a large pile of toys presumably used by her two sons.

She captioned the post, “Giving away toys for free. Please take them if you need them, toys that my child has used cleanly,” announcing that the giveaway would take place from February 13th to 15th in Itaewon of the Yongsan district.

However, the gesture was met with unexpected hostility from netizens. Critical comments flooded the post, with users accusing her of trying to offload trash without effort. “Pay to dispose of your waste,” one comment read, while others added, “Shouldn’t you at least sort them if it’s a giveaway?” and “It looks like you’re trying to save on garbage bag fees.”

The cold reception comes from her recent legal troubles. Last year, Hwang was indicted for embezzling 4.3 billion won ($3.2 million) from her personal corporation. She admitted to all charges and received a two-year prison sentence, suspended for four years. Although she repaid the full amount last summer, public sentiment remains critical.

Despite the controversy, Hwang appears to be preparing for a comeback. Last month, she officially completed the registration of her one-person agency as a popular culture arts planning business.

The registration, finalized on January 23rd, resolved a previous issue where the company had been operating without proper certification. Her side clarified the delay, stating, “We believed separate registration was unnecessary as we received management services from our previous agency.”

Hwang is now drawing attention to whether this administrative move signals her official return to acting.
