IU is stepping into a bold new role in MBC’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown, where she plays a flawless power player determined to conquer both the corporate world and the royal family.
Set in a modern-day constitutional monarchy version of South Korea, Perfect Crown tells the story of a woman who seems to have everything money can buy but is still held back by her commoner status, and a man born into royalty who, despite his title, is denied what he wants.
IU stars as Seong Hee Ju, the CEO of Castle Beauty. Born as an illegitimate child of a powerful conglomerate family, Hee Ju is known for her striking looks, sharp intellect, and relentless competitive drive. A decorated business leader who has even taken home a top entrepreneur award, she appears to be untouchable. Her one weakness, however, is her status as a commoner in a society where aristocratic hierarchy still carries enormous weight.
To overcome that barrier, Hee Ju makes a daring and secretive decision: she sets her sights on a contract marriage with Prince Ian, played by Byeon Woo Seok, a beloved royal figure.
