BLACKPINK’s Rosé is officially headed to the Grammy Awards stage, marking a major milestone as K-pop moves closer than ever to a historic first win.

On January 29th, the Recording Academy announced that Rosé will perform at the 68th Grammy Awards, set to take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Her appearance places her among a select group of global artists chosen for celebratory performances at music’s biggest night.

Rosé earned nominations in three major categories with “APT.”: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. With those nods, she becomes the first K-pop artist ever nominated in both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, two of the Grammys’ most prestigious categories.

K-pop’s presence at this year’s ceremony continues to grow. HYBE’s global girl group KATSEYE, also nominated in multiple categories including Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, is confirmed to perform as well, signaling a strong showing for the genre.

In addition, “Golden,” the original soundtrack track from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, is competing in five categories, including Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Song Written for Visual Media, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, and Best Remixed Recording.

For years, the Grammys have been viewed as K-pop’s final frontier. While artists like BTS and BLACKPINK have achieved major wins at U.S. and U.K. award shows, the Recording Academy has remained elusive. Psy’s “Gangnam Style” became the first K-pop song nominated in 2012 for Best Music Video, and BTS later earned consecutive nominations for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance from the 63rd through 65th ceremonies, but none resulted in a win.

That history has only heightened anticipation for this year’s ceremony. If Rosé or another K-pop act takes home a trophy, it would mark the genre’s first-ever Grammy win, a long-awaited breakthrough moment.

The 68th Grammy Awards will be held on February 1st. In Korea, the ceremony will be broadcast live on Mnet on the morning of February 2nd.
