Park Eun Bin stepped up to promote Netflix’s upcoming series The Wonder Fools on her own as co-star Cha Eun Woo fulfills his mandatory military service. Just one day later, allegations surrounding Cha Eun Woo sent shockwaves through the project.
On January 21st, Park Eun Bin attended the “Next on Netflix 2026” event, where she introduced The Wonder Fools and spoke warmly about her first collaboration with Cha Eun Woo, who is currently enlisted.
“It was my first time working with Cha Eun Woo, and I truly felt there couldn’t have been a better actor for the role,” Park said. “He gave everything to this project before heading off to serve. Wherever he is, I’m sure he’s doing well. I wish we could promote it together, but I’ll happily carry his part too. I hope he returns in glory.”
Her comments helped build anticipation for the series, but the tone shifted quickly. On the 22nd, reports surfaced alleging that Cha Eun Woo was involved in large-scale tax evasion.
According to reports, tax authorities notified the actor of additional taxes totaling roughly 20 billion KRW (approx. 14 million USD), citing income allegedly underreported through a corporation registered under his mother’s name. Controversy grew after it emerged that the company’s listed address was a restaurant in Ganghwa Island operated by his mother.
Cha Eun Woo’s agency Fantagio responded by saying the matter has not been finalized. “The key issue is whether the corporation established by his mother qualifies as a legitimate taxable entity,” the agency said. “This has not been officially confirmed, and we will actively clarify the legal interpretation through proper procedures.”
The timing has placed The Wonder Fools in a difficult position, with the controversy breaking just a day after Park Eun Bin publicly expressed support for her co-star. Industry observers note that the situation could impact promotional plans and scheduling moving forward.
Set in 1999, The Wonder Fools follows those who suddenly gain superpowers amid an era of apocalyptic anxiety, banding together to protect the peace of the city in a comedic action-adventure. Cha Eun Woo completed filming for the series before enlisting in the Army Military Band in July of last year.
